Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass that has an iridescent sheen caused by light reflecting from minute inclusions of mineral crystals, rock debris, water or gas.
It is sometimes classified as a mineraloid. Obsidian is more of a glass than crystal and contains less than 1% water when first formed. After being exposed to water, the lava becomes progressively hydrated forming perlite.
All of our earrings, necklaces and other pieces of jewelry are handmade by artist who have gone through a 20 year apprenticeship with carving masters to learn how to create various designs while still bringing our the stones natural color.
These lave stones are brought down from a family mine located in the heart of Mexico to their workshop where the stones are carefully cut to a workable size, then hand carved and hand polished to its final result.
Painstaking effort is taken by the artist to ensure all pieces retain and show their beautiful natural color.
